Strange subject line--But all the historical paintings mentioned on the subject of
war can't even begin to touch the reality of standing in a ditch and having your
buddy's head roll toward your feet! Get real with students--don't show them
pretty pictures--break out the VCR--show Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, Saving
Private Ryan, The Killing Fields---or the numerous History Channel documentaries
on the concentration camps of WW2 orVietnam--show clips of Iraqis being buried
alive by bulldozing allied tanks during the Gulf War--the oil fields, the tanks
and trucks and soldiers black and burning.
How about a picture/project of Iranian children rushing into mine fields as human
detonators to explode the mines for the soldiers who followed them, focusing on
the little wooden keys dangling from their necks which the ayatollah guaranteed
would be their key to heaven?
