Well, I am still getting over my crispiness. However, I wanted to share
a connection a student made in class the other day. We were watching a video
on Frida Kahlo and one of her self-portraits popped up done after she found
about the affair between her sister and her husband. Frida is seated like a
man with short hair and having the hair clippings lay across her leg. A
student asked me why she looked like a man. I told him she had found out
about her husband and her sister and asked him why he thought she did it. He
looked a little perplexed so I asked him to describe a woman. He said she
would have long beautiful hair, among other things. And then he thought a
moment. "Eh, Ms. Green, Ms. Green! I think I got it. She didn't feel like a
woman because her husband cheated on her and because she couldn't have any
kids with him. So she cut her hair off because she was no longer a woman,
but a man." Seeing the light go on gave me such a warm fuzzy. I wish we
could bottle those moments up and sip on them when we feel crispy. :)
