I teach in an inner city high school and I use incentives. I give out "art
dollars" (i laminated my own brand) and pass them out freely during the week
for kids that volunteer to sweep, clean brushes, help out a new student etc.
Each student that has attended all week, been on time, participated everyday
and followed directions automatically gets one too. On Friday I open my
store and sell cheap candy, small bags of chips and other things all starting
at a dollar. The kids love it and I don't have to beg anyone to clean up.
The catch is-they can't ask, I have to "catch" them doing the good deed. It
only takes about 10 extra minutes on Friday and well worth it.
Works for me.
