Last week, my art club made candle votives using red earthenware. The
requirement was that the top was open and holes were made or cut out of the
side to let the candlelight flicker like a jack-o-lantern. I found two
lessons from old Arts and Activities using a similiar idea. Most of my
students know pinch pots because we do them in 6th grade. I quickly
demonstrated slab and coil techniques. Great results- a wolf's silouette
howling at the moon cut out of a slab cylinder, a wonderful twisted twig
with a hole in the trunk, and lots more. The kids had a great time.
Tommorow, we are doing a jewelry workshop: one girl is teaching friendship
bracelets and me and another student will teach hemp bracelets.
