Soap Box: schedules

Excuse me, but I'm going to get on my soap box a minute. Feel free to delete
if you don't want to read.

For those of you out there w/those horrid schedules you need to look into
your state standards!

In Texas EVERY teacher is guaranteed a 45 minute planning period and a 30
minute duty free lunch EVERY DAY.

We cannot be required to do ANYTHING outside of our contract hours. For us
that means before 8:00 or after 4:00.

I know of teachers in our district who are going w/o planning periods and/or
lunch because of duties they are "required" to do. The truth is they aren't
required to do these, they just refuse to stand up for themselves.

Myself, I have at least 3 run-ins w/my principal a year because I stand up
for myself and my program.

I feel for those of you w/ bad schedules. Let me know if you don't have
state mandated laws to protect you and I'll be sure not to move to that
state! :P
