Thank you all for all of the great info - I find that the elementary and
middle school lessons ar often adaptable or give me new insights into my own
high school teaching. My own situation is very good. My high school is in
its 5th year, and we're on the 4x4 block schedule. Each class is 90 minutes
long and meets 5 days a week for 18 weeks. I teach Drawing & Painting 1 from
7:10 to 8:40, then a break until 10:51 to 12:28 Drawing & Painting 2, then
Ceramics until 2:10. All of my classes run about 30 students, which in 1st
period includes 6 E.S.E. students. Our budget is not set at a certain
amount, I ordered about $1400 worth of supplies at the beginning of the year,
and asked the students for a materials fee of $15, which about 2/3 paid. We
have 35% of our students on free or reduced price lunch. I have a PowerMac, a
27" TV, a laserdisc player, a VCR(you can see them in this month's SchoolArts
magazine)that are used for the internet and presentations, and a Powerbook
that is just for teacher use for grades, attendance, e-mail,etc.
