The kids love this fun Haunted House project and is great for all ages.
Give each child a shoe box bottom, cover it with bits of masking tape on
the outside (to look like old shingles and to cover the shiny coating so the
paint will stick) Paint the box in shades of black, grey or brown ---
inside too. They can stand the box either way and "decorate" the inside.
To get them started I put out some spider web silk, some kleenex for ghosts,
bits of clay, pieces of cardboard to add a stairway or whatever, string
etc.etc. The Jr. High kids get really creative with this.
When they're finished the boxes can be stapled to a bulletin board on top of
one another to give a 3-D apartment type effect. Don't add roofs if you want
to do this. Also they can be stapled on top of one another and will stand
free form if not stacked too high. A real space saver.
I just received a 3/4 split class last week. Reorganized again!! A teacher's
worst nightmare! I didn't have time to collect shoe boxes this year.
Instead I found some small ornament boxes the fabric store was going to
throw out. So we will make miniature houses this year. And since the boxes
aren't shiny we can omit the taping. Not as spooky, but will have to do.
