I had problems at the beginning of the year with students throwing
materials across the room. Here we are in October, and for the most part
things haven't changed. However, materials are not being thrown around the
room. I made the students pay for any misued material. (I got tired of
listening to excuses.) It started with one student who broke a ruler playing
around. After a few days of him not paying his debt, I told him he had to
sit in isolation and was not allowed to talk to anyone, even if someone was
talking to him. He could not work on art and would not until his debt was
paid. I explained it was his responsibility to make sure the materials he
used were to stay in tact and it was his responsibility to make sure he paid
for any materials he destroyed. I have not had a problem since. Knock on
wood.
