Rhonda,
I love your ideas. We did a similar project at a college I attended, only
we picked 3 professors as subjects. The class was put into 3 groups and went
with black & white head & shoulder photos of the professors on a grid. We all
made a wooden frame approx. 4ft. X 6 ft. and stretched our own canvas over
it. It would be easier if you could go with 1/2 inch plywood. One group used
old fabric as their medium (black, white and shades of gray). One group used
1 inch square pieces of paper cut and painted black, white & shades of
gray,(it looked like computer pixels. Our group used paper painted black,
white and shades of gray.We tore the paper in nugget sized chunks & wrinkled
them for a more organic look. We all used glue to adhere the pieces to the
canvas. This could also be done in color. They turned out great and have
continued this annually with new teachers as models. Good luck!
