A nice lesson on positive/negative space is a collage where you tear
coloured sugar paper(or any not too thick paper) and maka a composition
with attention to the spaces in between(the negative spaces)the bits. You
can compare those spaces to the spaces betweeen brances of trees. Then the
students can draw simple patterns in these spaces with a coloured chalk,
just one colour, white or black. It really worked well with my 9 and 10 yrs.
old students but I think you could use it also for older ones.
Best regards from the far north,
Rosa
