It's interesting to me that I haven't seen any mention of the raging =
little art war in New York over the Sensation exhbit at the Brooklyn =
Museum. It seems to me that there are so many people out there who =
would like to get rid of any form of publically funded art that it's =
rather poor timing to have such an "in your face" exhibit. We did =
discuss it in class from the viewpoint of what issues were involved. =
The kids came up with the First Amendment, Separation of Church and =
State, what media does art have to be made from for it to be art =
(discussed Sandy Skoglund's projects with hamburger and bacon), art and =
politics, the mayor and the first lady, animal rights, Is it all right =
to kill a cow and ship it to McDonalds but not to a museum, killing for =
eating/ killing for art, etc. There were students on both sides of the =
issues. =20
