I think Ellen Hall's classroom project on beauty is very appealing. It's
great to get kids thinking about factors contribute to a thing's beauty;
and the responses she got are quite revealing. It might be worthwhile
following up by asking the kids whether they can identify any things that
have the beauty-making characteristics named, yet aren't beautiful, as
well as things that have the non-bauty making characteristics named, yet
ARE beautiful. This would focus attention on the difficulties of
identifying CRITERIA for beauty.
