As I read the October, 1998 issue of KAPPAN tonight, I came across this very enlightening article. It appears that Mr. Renzulli's research is a start in the right direction to reform the factory based school and its exclusivities.
The program he discusses is based on a plan called the "Schoolwide Enrichment Model". It comes close to being what I would call a humane approach to teaching all children.
The core of this model is to develop the strengths of all children in a school model based on the development of each child's interests, talents and their learning styles.
It is part of a larger school reform model referred to as the Effective Schools Movement.
Renzulli, Joseph S. "A Rising Tide Lifts All Ships: Developing the Gifts and Talents of All Students", PHI DELTA KAPPAN, October, 1998, pp105-111.
Renzulli appropriately quoted Einstein:"Problems cannot be solved at the same level of conciousness that created them!
Have a great day,
