We are creating a set of art and ecology lessons based on the theme of water;
it's collection, conservation,etc. We have found several artists who have
used this subject in their art:
Laurie Lundquist- activated a stagnant pond into a river that recycles itself
through the lobby of a public building.
Lynne Hull- created a "hydroglyph" our of hand carved desert rock, in the
shape of a fossil to catch rain water for wildlife to drink.
Jody Pinto- Papago Park City Boundary, a gateway for Papgo Park, reclaiming
bladed ground and designing a rain catcher -water irrigation system in a tree
We are also exploring our own art inspired ecological projects. I created a
water system to collect the run-off from our "Swamp Cooler". It uses tubes
and gravity to feed the run off into a fountain I made from clay. I fired the
peice at a high temp to ensure that it would take the extremes of temperatures
we get in the desert.
