Sid, this summer I experimented with cement for the first time. It was
very intriguing. We used a formula of cement, sand and vermiculite,
poured it into forms, waited about three hours, and then carved away
like mad fools...with great results, if you had time to do all the set
up and waiting and THEN carve. The timing was really important...but
the great thing was the carving didn't take any special tools, I used my
ceramic tools. I even used the kitchen knife. If you are interested in
the receipe, and some of the variations, such as retardants and colors,
let me know and I will try to find all that stuff.
Since school has started, like all other teachers, I have become
fragmented, demented and inspired...summer seems so long ago...on our
old calendar, we would have had these gorgeous last two weeks off, and
we are all feeling the effects.
