I have read with interest the posts re: gifted students, and would like to
post a question/humble opinion...and would appreciate your opinions in return.

I got the general impression that the members of this listserv are very
concerned (as we should be) that the present educational system is not serving
all its children as well as it should. Frequently, I feel that our system of
education has become a factory where we apply industrial production
methods...and we're churning out Edsels! We are just one person each, trying
our best to reach each and every child, and through the arts, we have the
possibility of doing so. But we all come up against the standardized tests,
grading systems, etc., that put each child in the status of machines that must
pass the same inspection process and perform the same tasks in the same
process. We already know that people do not learn the same way...why do we
think we can educate, and assess the same way? What do you think?
