It was I initially who made the comment about the "highly gifted" label.
And your comments are right on.

The thing about labeling kids is it smacks of "Tracking", the practice of
labeling kids smart dumb or slightly gifted and setting them on a one way
course the rest of their educational career. With no opportunities to
realign themselves later.
