This is in response to the question about whether Leonardo da vinci was
the inventor or the perfector of scissors. I actually have no idea, but I
just want to let people know that there is a huge exhibition of Leodardo
da vinci's stuff and the Royal Victoria Museum in Victoria B.C. which is
supposed to be amazing. It is also either going to or has gone to Boston,
the only other destination. I think looking into the inventors and
contexts of the tools and equipment for art making can be really
important. By learning about how inventions came about, we can really
encourage students to think of themselves as possible inventors of some
really important things. I think it would be great to get kids to look at
tools of art making in this contextual way too.
