To Sandra and others,
PBL is problem based learning. The concept is based on the premise that kids learn more and are more highly motivated when there is a real world outcome to their work. My eighth graders will individually study a period of American art. Sudents in each class will choose a period of art from Native American (historical and contemporary) through the modern period. They will research the period and significant visual images from that period and recommend to our learning center director images that will be purchased for display in the learning center. They will even determine cost of reproductions. They need to convince her why their particular period and image is a good one for the learning center. The learning center director intends to take their recommendations in redecorating the LRC. Next year we will choose visual images for the office.
American art was chosen because students in both seventh and eighth grade studey American history.
Students will also complete a work of art in the style/technique of their art period.
Thank you to all who have made suggestions. mlh
