Middle schoolers are special (I've been with them for 16 years now.) So much
diversity. Some look and act like they're in highschool. Some look and act
like they're in elementary school. Develop routines, rules, and disciplinary
consequences and be consistant in maintaining them. I put them in writing and
give each student a copy. Middle schoolers feel comfortable when they know
what to expect. Be flexible. Laugh with them. Play surrogate parent when
necessary. And love them, too; they can really pick up on the teachers who
care.
