Ecological Art Perspectives and Issues:

I really enjoyed the work of Mierle Ukeles in this section. She works with
the sanitation department in New York City, and brings the community into
the problems with the garbage. Most people do not think about the waste
they are maing and what happens to it. In a city like New York it has to
be exported out.

Questions that I would like to know are:

How do the "garbage men/women" view the garbage, meaning do they see it as
an environmental problem or is it just part of their job?

How do they feel about recycling? Is it important to them? If they see a
aluminum can in the trash do they pick it up and put it into a recycle

And trash on the street, do they often find themselves picking up trash
and putting into a trash can? Or do they ignore it?

Another big question I have is about the public response to all of Ukeles
work in NYC has it made a difference? Are more people in NYC recycle and
realizing that their trash is a problem/ Are they concerned/ Or did they
all just look at her project and efforts and say "oh that dumb artist is
trying to prove a point"?
