"Art is the lie that makes us see the truth." Picasso
"Art is the form that feeling takes." (I can't remember the source)
"The artist does not draw what he sees, but what he must make others
see." Edgar Degas
The Art Teacher's Book of List is a great source of quotes but I left
mine at school- sorry. I approach this question of "what is art" using
the socratic method or as my kids say- the 2 year old method. Why? Why?
But, why? Let them find their own definition and then question it from
every aspect by using examples. You say that Art is something you make-
is the burnt pot pie that I made last night Art? Why not? Is this chair
art? Is this painting of a chair art? What's the difference? I try not
to answer questions but to make them think a little bit deeper. We
really do have fun with this!
Hoping for a sunny day tommorow! (We're working outside)
