Do you identify students as gifted in art? How old? What criteria do you use?
We had a gifted program in art (I guess we technically still do) but the
identification process seemed either totally unreliable, was based solely on
precocious drawing ability and/or put oodles of pressure on kids to be little
geniuses everytime they put pencil to paper....so now all of our opportunities
in art are self selecting .. interest in an area is perhaps the greatest
"gift" anyway. I guess I have some trouble with the whole idea of "giftedness"
cuz I've seen too many kids who really don't seem so highly talented suceed
because they are willing to work hard...and the reverse... I'm interested in
your take on the subject.
