In other news, I'd like to tell you about a great opportunity to visit
Japan through a three-week study program with the Fulbright Memorial
Fund Teacher Program. I was lucky enough to have been selected last
year and it was a great experience! 102 teachers (2 from each state and
DC) traveled to Japan, first meeting in San Francisco for orientation
(overnight). Once in Japan, we were divided into groups of twenty or
so and visited schools, did a weekend homestay with a Japanese family,
and sightseeing. This program is funded by the Japanese government
(when I went, everything but souvenirs were paid for--hotels, food,
transportation). There are three cycles: June, October , and
November. The deadline for application for the next cycle (June?) is
January 11, 1999. Check out the website
