The age group I did the comics thing with was 7th graders, but you could do it
w/ anybody, I imagine.
Indeed, "Understanding Comics" was (and is...) a very good book. I recommend
it for anyone who wants to teach about the stuff, but doesn't breathe comics
like some of us do. I also recomment it to anyone who DOES breathe comics
because McCloud describes and puts the things you instinctively know into such
simple terms. Comics are a fantastic means of storytelling, but sadly not
everyone knows how to communicate through them.
