Getting children involved in the art of thier community that has a tie to
the environment should be simple when we think that children spend most of
their play time outside. For instance, children love to play with dirt,
making forts and building castles. One interesting way to get kids to do
what they do best (play) while learning about the environment is to have
them do a project. This project would involve kids making designs from
different types of rocks and minerals. The kids can design by color,
shape, form or texture. The project can be placed in a box with a cover,
like a shoebox. With this project, kids learn about rocks and minerals
while expanding their ability to create works of art.
