Dear art educators:

Our district is currently in the process of adopting a visual and
performing arts curriculum. I am interested in hearing from anyone who has
recently formulated outstanding standards for visual arts grades K - 12. I
would like to contact these districts and get copies of their standards,
sample curricula, etc. Please enclose a mailing address, phone number, and
personnel contact of your curriculum office. We are a mid-sized urban
district with a deep committment to multi-cultural education and community
involvement. Our Arts curriculum has not been reviewed in over seven years,
and it was weak then. I would also be interested in hearing from arts
teachers who have been involved in the process of adopting stringent
standards in the face of very low district financial support for arts.

We are also looking for model curricula for a magnet school of the visual
and performing arts, where arts are integrated into all aspects of the
curriculum, with heavy classroom-teacher driven delivery. We are in the
process of writing a Federal grant, and could use some ideas for
integrating math and science. We already have an award-winning performing
arts program (Shakespeare and Gilbert & Sullivan), but we could use some
help in creating plays from literature grades K - 5.

Thanks for all your help and support!
