What do you think of this?

I am an art teacher at a middle school and I pride myself on getting kids
to work together to complete large projects for display. I have never
heard anything negative about the work and in fact have had lots of
wonderful comments. Anyway...........here's what happened. My principal
asked me about a muralist coming to our school and painting several large
scale works around the building. He did this in passing and I said it
sounded like it would be good. Well...I walked in this morning and the
muralist was there painting. He does not let kids work with him and was a
little distant from me. He did a large scene kind of like something yoiu
would see on the TV painting shows. This is fine but I thought about how
much this person is making and would love to mention that myself and the
children could do the same for half the price. Should I say anything or let
it go since the guy is already here. By the way my rpincipal asked for my
input about some fo the work and the guy brushed me off and took the
principal away. I'm not an inexperienced art teacher and am a working
artist myself. This is bugging me. I feel like he could have asked if I
could do that before he hired the guy. WHAT does everybody think? Am I
too late or just being too timid to say anything. The guy is making about
3,000 to 4,000 dollars for 3 weeks work. I could have had an artist in
residence for that and been here six weeks.
