I read your note about Shel Siverstein's book, The Giving Tree. It really
is a wonderful book to share with adults, as well as children.

Your note sparked an idea for a children's ecological project. I am from
St. Louis and on Arbor Day many of the local nurseries donate trees to be
planted. I think that it would be wonderful if the children could be
involved in the planting of the trees and each one adopt their own tree.
Theyywouldd then be responsible to check on the progress of that
tree. The book,k, The Giving Tree could be a great introduction to
the project (along with many other childrens books). Then the children
might do periodic sketches in a log of their tree to report the progress.
