separate messages

This summer, when the list was down and we received individual messages, I
grew to appreciate being able to save messages in subject folders. I would
like to once again receive messages NOT in a group. Is this possible?
Or does anyone know of an easy method of saving only the one message or so
from the 'magazine' of messages.
