I really did not intend to get into this fracass, but an interesting thing
happened last year when I gave an assignment that required a paper mache
piece that had moveable parts (with wire joints). One group of girls
made a crucifix and put Jesus on it with moveable arms and legs--and a
removeable knife in his side. It was startling--I think our reaction
is so strong because of our legalistic view about separation of church
and state. It doesn't bother us when it's old or native religious
icons, but what about Christianity?? Seems to make us a little edgy.
It didn't bother the kids at all--only the faculty. Sid
