Bunki, funny you should say...
Last night I had to call a parent about her son's behavior in art
class. She turned out to be pretty supportive giving the circumstances--her
son told her I had lifted him up by the shoulders and deposited him
elsewhere! (Grade 9). She was understandably upset and when she told me,
it took me a few moments to calm my mounting anger against her lying son.
We talked for almost half an hour about the boy,his lack of self-esteem,
missing father, alzhiemered grandmother in the home etc. but it was hard to
shake the horrible feelling about being cast in such a role by the student.
I had a hard time sleeping. It affected my teaching today. I have 200 art
students (that's just the afternoons) and I don't think I have the stamina
to be so involved with very many of them. I'm at a school where you're
expected to call home alot and I fine this pretty hard. Peggy
