Bunki: I had to respond to your note, particularly since our school year
is in the 2nd demoralizing - teacher the main problem with education
mentality. A parent called the school (I happened to take the call) and
slammed the teachers for not giving her child makeup work for a 12 day
suspension (the teacher she was berating had already started giving her
daughter the work). In our district a student suspended is not given
credit for the work missed (most teachers do give make up work, however).
The students was given the opportunity to attend a "discipline" center -
but the parent refused to send her. She waited until the child returned
to school to demand immediate feedback on all work missed. My question is
where was the child when she was not attending the discipline center, why
wasn't the student attending, and why wasn't parental help given the
student when she was suspended (for drugs/alcohol on campus)? Why spend
energy badgering the teachers? Because it's easier to blame someone else
- and we're the scapegoats? Keep on truckin', Bunki, it's all for our
students!
