Though I am not from Arizonia, but rather from the Northwest Coast of
Canada, I do remember being struck by the landscape of the desert. I am
wondering if any student teachers have ideas on how we could get youth from
Arizonia and British Columbia talking about issues in their hometowns,
regions, even countries. Here in BC, the environment is always a major
topic of discussion in a number of curricular subjects. Our natural
resource base supports much of the economy and thus, the environment means a
great deal to many people. Having said that, it is not uncommon for artists
to produce art that makes political statements about the environment.
Perhaps there is a way for us as art educators to tap into this activity,
not only in our local areas, but through telecommunications approaches. Any
thoughts of this?
