I am a faculty member at the University of California, San Diego interested
in outreach and arts education in the public school setting. I have
followed with great interest this initiative in New York City. I wonder if
there is anyway we in San Diego could benefit from the work and connections
made there with the Annenberg Grant. We have a wonderful San Diego City
Commission for Arts and Culture that is responsible for distributing the
city moneys [collected from the hotel tax] to arts organizations. We
include arts education as a mandated part of that activity.
We are interested in setting up a parallel organization of private and
business moneys that would match the city fund, similar to that set up in
New York. Would anyone know how we can get some insight into the process?
