Re: artists and art education bias

Hi! I really like your points. It is certainly needed to do much in the
education of art educators, but I do think some places must be doing
something right, look at all the aware and clever people on this
listerserv! But yes it is also a big problem everywhere how people just
donīt look at art teacher with the same idea as other educators and seem to
think anybody can teach art! here is where we need to change peopleīs view.
How we can do it? I donīt have a miracle answer but by doing well what we
are doing is showing others that arteducation is necessary, that we need
the arts in school and in society, of course we must try to make it clear
why it is so important that we have THE ARTS! This I think we do best by
teaching our students well, because good foundation in the arts and the
capability to be able to use ones creativity in as many ways as possible is
so important. Also the reason I really like DBAE is that it handles art as
a discipline and until art is valued in schools as much as reading, writing
and arithmatic we will have to do better. regards Rosa
