I spent today in Columbia, SC at a meeting arts educators that have
participated in in CLIA here in SC. CLIA stand for Curriculum
Leadership Institute for the ARts. It was a day to reflect on the 2
intense week we spent at Lander University honing our leadership skills
as educators. We reflected on our many experiences and what we had each
done to become leaders in arts education. We even discussed who the
most impressive presenters had been, and Craig who did 2 different
workshops for us was one of the people who was mentioned. However, what
I really wanted to tell you about, or ask how many of you have heard
about the new campaign through the Kennedy Center called "The Creative
Ticket to Student Sucess?" It is based on "One Goal", "One Promise",
"Student Sucess." It will involve group discussions nationally and in
each state about student sucess. WHat does it look like? and What
factors facilitate student sucess. They have come up with 4 main ideas
for their discussions and the fact that arts education makes a
siginifigant contributation in all areas. 1. Imaginative Learning 2.
Parental Involvement 3. Cultural Capital 4. Community Connections
Look for this in in your state and see what is happening.
And yes, I am one of those people who has been reading artsednet for
over a year but am sometines a bit to timid to jump in. I have enjoyed
the many great ideas shared, but dislike the negativity.
