Re: middle school concept

We are also going to the middle school concept next year and I'm not sure exactly how things will work for specialist teachers. Sometimes the art, commputer, technology are considered "exploratory", and the students attend these classes for part of the term. Often the "exploratory" team has a group of students while the "real" teachers have common planning time. I think that art for example should be linked with the core subjects to a certain extent, but also there should time for art for art's sake as well. It seems to be a case of eidther learning through art or learning in art. Ultimately, it will probably be an administrative decision as opposed to an educational one! However, I would still like to hear the experiences of others on the middle school concept.
