I am an artist/teacher who recently completed the DBAE training. When my
excitement reached the art teachers in my county, I was asked to do a
teacher workshop. In trying to condense two weeks of intense training into
a two day workshop, I developed some materials that I am quite proud of. I
have a planning guide sheet to keep important focuses in mind.......for
those who don't have time to write extensive units of study (although I
believe they are important)... these planning sheets can suffice when trying
a new unit, then you can polish it and develop the written unit after the
test sessions are evaluated. The evaluation sheets I developed are useful
when reviewing your lesson for weaknesses and strengths. I also created a
three dimensional model of DBAE in action. A model 'school' enhanced by
DBAE, complete with 23 figures of children of all ages and their teachers
doing various activities (such as: timeline research, aesthetic activities,
discussion.......). I plan to make a slide presentation with a script which
uses the analogy of comparing the construction of a building, to
constructing a quality art program (thus a quality education) with DBAE
(using the model as a builders manual). If anyone is interested in workshop
materials, this may be a unique approach to gain school support for your
program and start a chain of willingness to integrate art into the other
subject areas??? I have worked in my community for over ten years to build
and support a quality art program. This is why I was so excited with the
training I received. I found people who understood my frustrations with
pumpkins in October!!!!!!!!!!
