I am in the process of writing a unit of study on Wassily Kandinsky (1866-
1944) who was both an accomplished musician and visual artist. He is
regarded as the originator of abstract art. He connected music with his
paintings with a sort of poetry, as his own words reveal: "Color is the
keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the piano with many
strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to
cause vibrations in the soul." I found this statement among other
information about Kandinsky from the WebMuseum.
