Hi! I'm S. H. Evans, art/computer graphics teacher at
Southeast Middle in
Louisiana. We are in the process of changing to the
"middle" school concept by next year, which includes block scheduling and
team
teaching. My concern is the place electives hold in this "concept." It is my
understanding that in order to complete the concept the elective teachers
are integrated into the "required" subjects to supplement the concept
being taught (i.e. teach
Egyptian artin social studies). Is anyone working with this, can you
explain how it has developed - pros and cons? Will I lose my identity as
an art teacher and no longer teach "art for arts sake?" When I visited a
"true middle school" to have a first hand glimpse of the concept at work, I
naturally looked for the art room. When I couldn't find it, I
asked where it was and was told "there isn't one." What's
happening? Thanks for any response evans.edu
