DEar Domenic,
Romare Bearden was very much influenced by Jazz, as was Stuart Davis. In
fact, Bearden and Davis shared a mutual interest. Bearden sought out Davis,
after seeing his work. Bearden began to work at his collages the way a Jazz
musician composed, improvisionationally and spontaneously. Bearden has also
done many collages on the subject of music. If I am not mistaken, Bearden
calendars are out for 1997 - I think I saw one the last time I was at
SFMOMA.
Georgia O'Keeffe also did a few paintings while listening to music. It was
early in her career, after studying with Arthur Wesley Dow. Hopefully, this
will give you a few artists to pursue. Good luck.
Sincerely,
Jill Pease
