I treat art as the MOST important subject taught; our society's ills can be directly attributed to our lack of regard for culture - technology with no grace only produces robots. I have my own standards and benchmarks. Since I run a TAB Choice studio, any 'cross-curricular' work is at the student artists descretion, not the demand of a classroom teacher. I keep a running gallery in all display cases and hallways with accompanying artists statements when artists are ready to display work. Studio time is used to explore media and technique; I am constantly on duty to make connections and supply needed technical advice or art history information to help develop the artist's sense of community and connections through time. Be sure to look at the Yahoo TAB Choice Art Ed group before making any judgements about elementary art teachers! Good Writing!
