[teacherartexchange] Beginner Shading Projects

I would like to begin shading with my 7th and 8th Graders. And I was
thinking of creating a practice grid for them to experiment shading different ways
in 6 circles. Then we would start our shading projects (7th will be doing a
piece of fruit being eaten shown in different stages) and 8th Grade I am not
sure what type of shading project I want to do. (suggestions?)

Would you also create a value scale using pencil/pen/charcoal during the
same project (maybe not the same day) but maybe the next class as a
"mini-lesson"?
