I like the idea of "lab" or practice sheets. I think students need to
understand that techniques need to practiced, and hopefully mastered, before turning
to a project or final piece of art. My students too often leave a demo from me
thinking "this is easy" and then struggle. And I do worksheets as well.
I guess, on another note, it gets back to something that I've been thinking
about lately. Too many students, especially in jr. high, think you're either
born with these skills or you''re not. And if you're not, there's the not a
heck of a lot you can do about it.
This attitude is so pervasive in my 8th grade classes, and I spend a lot of
time trying to convince them that this is a teachable subject.
