We bought cork board squares, cut them up into strips, hotglued them in one long strip around the room, and voila, we can tack things up. You can also just hot glue stuff to the walls, and then 'cut' it off with a razor. But we are happy with our cork board strips.

Also, regarding room decoration, what type of hanging system do you have in your rooms? My walls are concrete block, painted. How do I hang anything on concrete? Thanks!!
