Wow Judy, this is horrible! I can't figure out if you have any time
left to teach art/!! Are you teaching math and reading during your
classes?? I guess you need a new name for prep since you don't have
one. Sorry--hope it's not heading this way. Sid

Okay, I'm not sure I can do this another day, let alone the rest of
Monday mornings, spend the first 20 minutes (always longer) on
Assessment practice questions. This is my prep period, so I am
another teacher as a partner.
Wednesdays, every class beginis with a state assessment warm up
reading or math. This is going to go to twice weekly, then three times
as we get closer to the assessments in March. Supposedly 5 to 7
know how that goes.
Wednesday, department or team meetings (during prep or team time) with
staff development teacher, to explain what we are doing with the
THIS Wednesday, begin the morning with a two hour practice assessment.
Mostly Scantron. Each teacher is to record the data on each of thirty
for each student so we know where they are having trouble.
Every three weeks, spend every class period filling out p rogress
triplicate--one goes home, one to counselor, one to team leader. NOW,
end of the day, when they are collected, teachers must flag all Ds and
SO THAT the data can be compiled, and we will get a list back of each
received a D or E from us, and explain what we did to intervene.
BESIDES a brand new grading system (countywide) this year, which is
specific, and disallows any discretion to consider effort,
attendance. The question is, Was the standard met, or not? But, we
learning skills scores in each of those areas for every class on the
card. We are to use a 4,3,2,1 scale, or a 50 to 100 scale. Even if
work is not
turned in, on the 50 to 100 scale, it may not get less than a 50.
Walk throughs all the time, looking for posted Essential Questions,
Understandings, mastery Objectives, and a notebook of lesson plans,
the "new lessonese" on your desk and accessible to observers.
"Focus Groups" to talk about the new grading and reporting system once
onth, after school BEFORE our committee meetings.
It goes on and on and on--oh yes, instead of two afternoons for
conferences, our school holds conferences from 1 till 7, after we
all our classes in a half day. I am exhausted.
Thanks for listening--wish I felt better already. I love the kids, and
love teaching art--but this year is it for me.
