art history is totally integrated into my curriculum. Sometimes we might
spend the entire class period discussing work, reading about artists or working
in small groups. I tell my students that learning about art and artists is as
much a part of art education as the creating of art.

Faith Ringgold is great at illustrating that point. ON her videos she talks
about "copying" from european artists to learn what they had to teach and
about "copying" african art to learn about that. Then she created her own art
form!

I don't use artists or artwork that way, but I do tell students that we have
much to learn from master artists.
