While I don't relish the prep and cleanup for messy projects, once I am
into it I always remember why I love them so much. Kids creativity
soars with interesting and often messy materials, especially mixed
media, which can be the wildest of all to organize.

 However, I DO love colored pencils, and they are not messy. Drawing
with pens and pencils and colored pencils is about the cleanest thing I
can think of. It's nice to take breaks from the messiest stuff with an
easy prep/cleanup project in between.
