Even my seventh graders have enjoyed making "pine cone turkeys"--an idea I
found in a holiday craft book. (I do this project the day before
Thanksgiving break.)
If you can get some large, round pine cones (as opposed to the longish ones),
use those for the body. Glue on paper wings, beak, feathers, etc. Glue
turkey onto a styrofoam plate. Glue a few kernels of corn on the plate (to
look like turkey feed.) Very easily done in one class period.
I have also substituted a newspaper-stuffed brown lunch bag for the pine cone
body.
